Canadian Diamonds

There was a time when the thought of finding diamonds in Canada was little more than a prospector's dream. Only since the late 1990's has Canada seen the dawning of world-class diamonds in the north. Caprice® diamonds are born of these newfound treasure troves nestled in the heart of Canada's pristine and remote Arctic tundra. They are as resplendent and exotic as the winter wonderland that created them.

Today, the Canadian diamond mining industry is leading the way in integrating sustainable development into its activities. In fact, it was among the first in the world to develop and adopt a national environmental policy. Caprice® diamonds are the fruit of this proud and lasting Canadian legacy.

The Diamond Pit

The Five C's

Before you buy your diamond, there are key points that you should consider carefully. They are commonly known as the four Cs. Caprice® believes there are five Cs to choosing a beautiful, quality diamond:

Cutvarious types of diamond cuts

The quality of the cut depends on the expertise of the diamond cutter. Caprice® diamonds are cut to maximize brilliance. The light in a Caprice® diamonds is reflected from one facet to another, and then dispersed through the top of the gem.

Caprice® diamonds are also available in ideal cuts. These diamonds have been cut to proportions that have been accepted in the industry as mathematically perfect in terms of optimized light dispersion in a round brilliant cut diamond.

Your Caprice® Ideal diamond is cut to ideal proportions: you will know by the hearts and arrows pattern viewed through the Symmetry Scope and by the pure brilliance when it is worn.

ColourColour grading scale

Diamonds come in many different colours, however the very best have no colour at all. Near colourless diamonds such as Caprice® diamonds allow light to pass through them and reflect all the colours of the rainbow.

ClarityClarity grading scale

The clarity of a diamond is determined by using a 10-power magnifying glass called a loupe. Most diamonds contain tiny characteristics or "birthmarks" that can interfere with the light passing through them. The fewer the marks, the more beautiful and valuable the diamond is.

Carat weightVarius carat veight examples

The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. One carat is divided into 100 points, meaning that a 75-point diamond weighs 0.75 carats. Diamonds of equal weight can differ greatly in cut, colour and clarity, which leads to variations in value and price.
